How to Avoid Adam’s Apathy & Eve’s Deception, Genesis 3:6

Genesis 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

Last week we looked at how Eve was deceived by the villain. We gave Adam the day off; it was Father’s Day.

Now, look at Adam at the end of verse six.

He wasn’t deceived, (1 Tim. 2:14) he just took what his wife gave him and ate.

He was pathetically apathetic.

He knew it was wrong. He should’ve paid attention; should’ve jumped in the middle of the conversation and said, “Whoa! The LORD God has said don’t eat it, now snake beat it, or, I’ll crush your head.”

Fathers have followed Adam’s apathy to the detriment of our family, our cities, our nation, our world.

Fathers, pay attention.

SERPENTS ARE FEEDING YOUR CHILDREN.

Get off the couch! Jump in the middle of what your son’s watching. Jump in the middle of who your daughter’s dating. Jump in the middle of who they hang out with.

What are you watching? If the show glorifies sin, jump up, “Whoa! Not in my house.”

If you cozy up to sin, you’ll grow numb to sin, and succumb to sin.

How do we avoid Adam's apathy & Eve's deception?

1. CLEAN HOUSE

Psalm 101:2-3 …I will walk through my house with a perfect heart I will set no unclean thing before my eyes…

a)     Get rid of the garbage. What would you hide if Jesus was coming for dinner? What would you shut off? Channels? Websites? Movies?

b)    Steer clear of temptations. Lots of other trees in the garden. Don’t go near what allures you to sin.

2. PREPRAYER:

1 Corinthians 10:13. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Adam lost Paradise in a garden. Jesus won Paradise back, in a garden.

Adam faced temptation, and lost. Jesus (2nd Adam) faced temptation, and won. And He tells us what we must do to win, too.

You’ll remember the scene. Jesus is facing the biggest battle of His earthly life. He’s stressed to the point of sweating great drops of blood. He asks friends, to pray with Him—but they fall asleep, repeatedly.

Finally, He gives them (and us) the answer to victory: Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the flesh weak.  Matthew 26:41.

 Preprayer.

What did He pray?    Not My will but Thine. Matt. 26:39-44.

How easy would it have been to call out to God?

LORD God, this snake says we should eat the fruit You told us not to eat. What do You say?

BAM! A big shoe drops from heaven and crushes the serpent’s head.

When in the middle of a temptation. Stop. Pray. LORD God what do you say?

In the middle of a confrontation. Stop. Say, “Let’s pray. Let’s ask God what He has to say?”

Then, watch for the other shoe to drop. He will answer. If we will ask.

Sure Doug, that’s easy for you to say. I don’t how or what to pray, or what the Bible has to say about a particular situation.

No worries. That's why God put us in family (Church; Ekklesia). If you don’t know how or what to pray, or the Bible has to say; phone a friend.

Jesus asked His friends to pray with Him.

You’re welcome to call me directly at: 612-554-2522.

We’ll pray. We'll see what God has to say, in His Word.

He has the answer.

He is The Answer.

…all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account... For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.  Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:13-16.
